Welcome Back: Facilitating the Return to School for Children with Cancer - October 2008

This program was a partnership program with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. School nurses, teachers, counselors, nurses amd parents attended to learn more about the latest research and treatments being down at the University of Iowa as well as re-entry information for cancer survivors into the school system. Dr. Thomas Loew was the feutured presenter followed by a panel of experts including: Susan Benton, Hospital Teacher; Brenda Engebretson, Child Psychologist; Mary Schlapkohl, Nurse Practioner; Bonnie Winslow-Garvin, parent and Jake Schaefer, 24 year childhood cancer survivor.

Senior College Mini Medical School (September 2008)

In a partnership program with the Senior College of Greater Des Moines, physicians from the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine traveled to Des Moines to present a 4 week Mini Medical School series on Cardiovascular Disease.

Arizona Mini Medical School - March 2008

The University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine held its first national Mini Medical School program on March 19, 2008 at the Chaparral Suites Resort in Scottsdale, Arizona. John Fingert, M.D., Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine presented "Age Related Vision Loss: Understanding Common Eye Conditions and Looking into the Future."
